My 2016 Halloweensie Entry

It’s my favorite time of year—Halloween! For a month (or maybe three) it’s socially acceptable (I think) to watch Hocus Pocus on a loop. Don’t judge me.

It’s also time for Susanna Leonard Hill’s 6th Annual Halloweensie Contest! To enter, you must write a 100-word-or-less Halloween story containing the words spider, ghost, and moon. Judging criteria include kid-friendliness, Halloweeniness, story quality, writing quality, and creativity/originality.

I encourage you to participate. It’s spooktacular fun! Read my entry below.

CREEPIDY CREEP
Spider’s ghost starts an All-Hallowed spook
Creepidy creepidy creepidy creep
On a boy who squished her with his boot
Creepidy creepidy creepidy creep
She skitters and scoots beneath the door
Creepidy creepidy creepidy creep
Slides sneaky across the moonlit floor
Creepidy creepidy creepidy creep
Spider spins her web up the bedpost
Creepidy creepidy creepidy creep
To haunt the boy she despises most
Creepidy creepidy creepidy creep
Beneath the covers she whispers:
“One, two—EEK!
“Creepidy creep…retreat!”
She nearly faints from his stinking feet.
Away Spider goes, pinching her nose.
The boy wiggles his toes.
Creepidy creepidy creepidy sleep.

  1. Delightful entry, Shae! Love the fun-to-read-aloud repetition, spider’s attempt at revenge, and the fact that she’s foiled by those stinky feet yet again! Poor spider! It doesn’t seem fair 🙂 Thanks so much for joining in the Halloweensie fun! (ANd I have never seen Hocus Pocus, if you can believe it, but I’ve heard so much mention of it this year that I’m going to apply myself to watching it soon!)
